"Tale of utmost courage and determination in the face of insurmountable odds." ActionTales.com

David Chacko's books have been
called "brilliant and scaring" (Kirkus), and "raw-boned and brutal" (The Detroit News). He is known as "a novelist of talent and power" (Playboy),
"a writer of power and intensity" (Publisher's Weekly), and "a powerhouse charged with artistic and imaginative feats." (Buffalo Courier-Express)
The Chicago Tribune says simply: "There is no better way to write."

LIKE A MAN
Historical fiction of the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich during World
War II
The underground activities of World War II kept people’s hopes alive while
death surrounded the people in central Europe, especially Czechoslovakia.
These people, although defeated with the occupation of the Germans, refused
to give up their spirit and their beliefs to the Nazis.
In 1941, the communication between Prague and London was discovered by the
Nazis. London sent elite groups of men to Czechoslovakia by dropping them
at night by parachutes. Since these men were fairly easy targets for the
Germans to find, this story is about a few of the men who succeeded and
those who failed with their missions and fought for the Allied forces.
One group of these parachuters was known by the names of Zdenek, who was a
small arms marksman, and Ota, who was an explosives expert. Their mission
was called Anthropoid. These two men were to assassinate Reinhard
Heydrich, the Nazi Protector of Bohemia and Moravia. After the success of
their mission, the Nazis retaliate against the people in the area and
annihilate the town of Lidice. The Nazis sought revenge for the
assassination, but the people, even those who were killed, possessed
something within themselves that the occupiers could not occupy.
When these Czech patriots return to their homelands to fulfill their
missions, their priorities and values changed within them and within the
people of the country.
"Every young boy thought that he would do something of importance in this world. It was only when he stopped thinking it that he stopped being a
creature of God. And became just a man."
The strength of a people who would sing on their way to their executions is
the story of LIKE A MAN. The strength of these men who assassinated
Heydrich is shown in their determination not to give up. These men do not
go down without a fight. This is a story of these men, their mission, and
the punishment of the people in the area that helped with the assassination.
This true historical event is so masterfully written. The characters being
shown as real people along with the real people of Prague during the
occupation by the Nazis with their weaknesses and their needs to rely on
each others’ strengths, as well as trust. Anything I write does not do
justice to this heroic event written by David Chacko. The pace is fast and
the author’s affection for the characters and the people is obvious.
The mystery of LIKE A MAN is the people who actually were part of this
event. Yes, a crime was committed and punishment was received. Who are
the real criminals during a war?
David Chacko has written numerous novels such as LESS THAN A SHADOW and A
LONG WAY FROM EDEN. He lives in Florida and Turkey while he continues to
write.

"Chacko has done it again. Like a Man ventures without reloading into the no-quarter world behind Nazi lines. His troops--real men all--enter the heart of darkness and emerge on the other side triumphant."
- Carl Ax, author of After 'Nam

In 1941, the Nazis broke the secret radio link from Prague to London. Something had to be done quickly to re-establish that all-important link.
London's answer was to insert Anthropoid, a team of Czech patriots trained as parachutists in England. Josef Gabcik--code name Zdenek--was the best small arms marksman. Jan Kubis--code name Ota--was best with explosives.
Zdenek and Ota rendezvous with other Czech resistance fighters and start to locate their objective. The Gestapo has its spies everywhere.
They're more than willing to torture and kill to find the Anthropoid team and discover its objective.
The pressure is on. Zdenek and Ota must outmaneuver and kill all that gets in their way. Their only alternative is death by the Nazis or suicide.
Neither the local partisans nor the Nazi Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, Reinhard Heydrich, know the real reason for Anthropoid. When they finally do, it's too late.
Turn the pages and watch the author expertly weave historical
events and his characters into a fiery crescendo.
A great read!

"Every young boy thought that he would do something of importance in this world. It was only when he stopped thinking it that he stopped being a creature of God. And became just a man."
Like a Man is an espionage adventure story deep in Nazi occupied Czechoslovakia at the height of World War II. Paratroopers are dropped under the cover of darkness in enemy territory with a mission to assasinate one of the most influential men in Nazi command - the head of the SD and the Gestapo, General Heydrich.
The mission gets off to a rough start when Zdenek and Ota are dropped far off target and Zdenek is injured in the landing. Laboring their way to their target, they seek help from the underground resistance. Word reaches them that other units are being dropped into enemy territory. Many of them are getting captured by the Gestapo and disappearing. The trail is shortening; they need to fulfill their mission before they too are captured.
Like a Man is a good read for those even with a passing interest in espionage and war stories. Spy and action fans will enjoy following the agents with author David Chacko, who has a convincing understanding of the time period and spirit of an agent. Those who are just looking for a good read will find themselves swept up in Chacko's narrative.
"After two hours in a plane with no soundproofing and the engines hammering, Josef Gabcik found that he was hardly nervous, hardly capable of thought. The telepathic farewells that he might have made with the living had been shaken from his mind. The deep vibrations had entered his bones and exchanged meaning, as if he were bonded by rivets and struts, a creation in steel, something new and composite."
